Job Description / Duties
The City of Mission’s Clarke Theatre is looking for experienced theatre technicians who are passionate about the theatre. This is an on-call position and is available immediately.
Under the general direction of the Manager, the Theatre Technician is responsible for providing technical support to the artists, clients and the community users, who are involved in the performances and events that take place within the Clarke Theatre and associated venues. Theatre technicians will have well- rounded experience in all areas of technical theatre that will meet the requirements of the diverse users of our facility. Hours of work and days off may vary according to the needs of the Theatre.
Some of the key responsibilities include the following:
• Assist in preparing the theatre for a variety of performances and events. This can include but is not limited to, lighting hangs and focus, sound setups, assembling sets and staging, preparing audio and video files, and lobby setups.
• Ensuring client requirements are met in a timely manner, resolving technical problems for the client, ensuring performances and events go smoothly, ensuring safe use of the facility.
• Cleans stage, booth, shop and other backstage areas, and performs minor maintenance and repairs as needed.
• Programing and operating lighting and sound consoles and assisting backstage.
• Advises facilities personnel of minor theatre cleaning and maintenance needs.
• Ensures the safety of theatre users and staff and the safe operation of theatre equipment, reporting and notifying supervisor of the need to repair and replace equipment.
• Liaise with theatre users to assist in the planning of successful events, providing technical advice and assistance for major productions.
• As required, produce lighting, video, audio and set designs for shows.
Qualifications / Required Skills
The successful candidate will have 2 years of technical stage work experience and/or training, and experience in theatre backstage environment as well as knowledge of relevant occupational health and safety regulations. The candidate will have specific technical knowledge as required in the performing arts, such as sound reinforcement, lighting design, understanding of electrical theory, and knowledge of stage carpentry, ETC Lighting Consoles, Allen and Heath D-Live or similar audio consoles, QLab,
PowerPoint, operation of a manual fly system and knowledge of theatrical terminology. You will have the ability to communicate clearly and concisely and have the motivation and willingness to show initiative. You must also have sufficient strength and stamina to perform the strenuous work required and are capable of working at heights.
Additional Information
The hourly rate is $29.00 plus 4% in lieu of benefits.
