Job Description / Duties
An integral role in Tarragon’s production team and community, the Technical Director will work closely with the Production Manager to support creators, and all artists, for the theatre’s productions. You will also work with staff towards short and long-term planning while upholding the company’s mission, which supports artists (creators, playwrights, directors, etc.), their voices and their practices.
You are a dedicated theatre practitioner, with an interest in supporting the artistic and production functions of the Tarragon. You enjoy working in a fast-paced, artistically engaging, and collaborative work environment.
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Technical Director is responsible for:
● Implementing all technical aspects of the productions, within planned budgets and schedules, while maintaining high production standards.
● Maintaining the safety of the workplace by helping establish and ensure all health and safety policies.
● Creating and updating AutoCAD construction drawings for each of the production set/props designs
● Costing, locating and ordering all scenic elements including soft goods, rigging etc.
● Building and/or overseeing the build of special effects, electrical devices and rigging related to any given production.
● Scheduling and supervising construction of all scenic elements.
● Overseeing load-ins, set-ups and strikes.
● Coordinating with production department heads throughout the season and assisting where needed.
● In conjunction with the Production Manager, overseeing all lighting, sound and video installs, levels sessions, onstage rehearsals and previews.
● Contributing to the overall success of Tarragon Theatre by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
Qualifications / Required Skills
● Graduate of a recognized theatre program and a minimum of 2-5 years of accomplished work in theatre production or similar combination of training and experience.
● Proficiency in MS Office with expertise in Microsoft Word and Excel.
● Strong AutoCAD Drafting skill
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
● Ability to manage competing priorities and to complete work in a timely manner.
● Ability to supervise, delegate and manage technicians and crew
● Flexibility to adjust work schedule as required.
● A valid G Driver’s license.
Experience in the following areas would be assets:
● National Touring, both the planning for and time on the road.
● Working with related Unions and/or Associations.

Salary: $44-$50,000 + benefits
