Job Description / Duties

The Royal Winnipeg Ballet is seeking a full-time Technical Director to join our team. Ideal candidates will have extensive knowledge in production operations and the performing arts, coupled with experience in effective time management. THE POSITION

As the Technical Director, you are accountable to the Production Manager for the execution of production support and warehouse management for all production requirements. In this position, you provide leadership and manage the touring and production crews, while providing support and feedback in maintaining and improving production standards.

HIGHLIGHTED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• In conjunction with the Production Manager, manage department staff, crew, and contractors.
• Prepare and communicate all technical requirements, line plots, floor plans, and schedules for each
production/performance including special events.
• Coordinate between School and Company production needs.
• Conduct final review of all production schedules with RWB crew and affected staff, including all
performance venues and suppliers.
• In conjunction with the Production Manager, schedule and communicate information regarding
multiple events and projects between various stakeholders.
• Issue and reconcile purchase orders and payment requests.
• Operate lighting, audio and audio visual for school and special events.
• Implement all technical policies and procedures and all associated production and post-production
services and activities, consistent with established guidelines.
• Ensure the technical team assembled for productions can operate the facilities and equipment.
• Assist the Production Manager in finalizing annual working calendars for Touring and Crew labor.
• Assist the Director of Production and Production Manager in the assessment and prioritization of
Capital needs for all Production departments, including Studios and A/V support.
• With the Director of Production and Production Manager, plan, review, and budget technical and
construction requirements for new creations/remounts of existing repertoire.
• Continually seek to achieve the greatest cost efficiencies, the most effective use of manpower, and
annual departmental expense budgets

Qualifications / Required Skills

WHAT YOU BRING

• College, University Degree, or Diploma in broadcasting, theatre arts or a related field, a combination of equivalent education and related work experience may be considered.
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a Technical Director or Production Management required.
• Experience as a Lead or Supervising Technician with a local or touring company in the entertainment
industry or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of scenery construction, lighting, audio, video and special effects for the stage and theatre.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to travel outside of Manitoba and Canada.
• Creative thinker to develop, design and create new ideas, systems and relationships including artistic
contributions.
• Ability to analyze information and evaluate results choosing the best solution to resolve problems.
• Sound judgment and decision-making abilities .
• Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to set priorities.
• Coordination of work activities for self and others by identifying information by categorizing,
estimating, and detecting changes in circumstances in events.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office programs and Windows and Mac operating
systems, along with working knowledge of Vectorworks 2020 or later
