Job Description / Duties
Technical Director – Royal MTC
Royal MTC produces 11 shows each season that are the leading responsibility of the Technical Director position, alongside ancillary events and presentations.
Reporting to the Director of Production, the Technical Director works in conjunction with highly experienced seasonal props, wardrobe, carpentry and paint shop staff to deliver extraordinary productions across two venues, and brings significant experience, a deep love of delivering artistic visions on time and on budget, and an appreciation for the unique challenges each show presents.
The successful TD will be joining a busy Production Department consisting of a PM, ATD, APM and Production Associate.
The start date is flexible but ideally the new TD will begin work in summer 2022. This is a full-time, year-round position.
Responsibilities
The TD is responsible for all technical elements of Royal MTC productions, including:
• Costing out shows based on preliminary and final designs
• Keeping track of ongoing costs and budget reconciliation
• Working with various departments on innovative solutions to problems
• Creating production schedules
• Supervising the installation, strike and tech week of all productions
• Ensuring the maintenance, on an ongoing basis, of all production equipment
• Maintaining an up-to-date inventory of production equipment
• Participating in the selection of production equipment, the planning of long-term improvements and maintenance for the facility
Qualifications / Required Skills
• A graduate of a recognized theatre program or equivalent professional experience
• Strong knowledge of current theatrical production equipment and processes
• More than three years’ experience as a TD or PM with a broad working knowledge of all elements of production applicable to a regional theatre
• Strong drafting, Vectorworks and computer skills
• Experience in budget tracking and maintaining material and labour budgets for shows, overhead and capital
• Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities; experience managing IATSE work crews is an asset
• Ability to assess, ensure and promote health and safety in all areas (including respectful workplace conditions); the TD is an essential and active member of the Health and Safety committee

Salary: Compensation • Based on a 40-hour work week with fluctuating hours during tech weeks. Weekend availability a must during the season (September – May). • Salary range $55,000 to $65,000 depending on experience, with an attractive benefit plan. • A moving allowance is available for out-of-town candidates
