Job Description / Duties
The Blyth Festival is currently seeking a candidate to fill the seasonal position of Technical Director for the 2025 summer season. The contract will start May 20, 2025, and conclude August 3, 2025. This person will work alongside the Production Manager and one other TD to facilitate the summer season productions. If you are only available for a portion of this time, we would still love to know about you.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Technical Director (TD) will work closely with the other TD and report to the Production Manager (PM). The responsibilities include but are not limited to those normally associated with a similar position in other professional Canadian theatre companies. The TD will be required to:
• Work both indoors and outdoors in Blyth, ON
• Collaborate with PM, TD, designers and Head Carpenter to cost and conceptualize the execution of design submissions
• Collaborate with PM, TD, designers and Head Carpenter to prepare build schedules and shop drawings
• Coordinate, supervise, manage, and assist with venue setup, system installs, load ins, fit ups, changeover, strike and load out.
• Work in partnership with, and support, stage management, creative teams, front of house and administrative staff.
• Attend and participate in production, company and staff meetings, dress rehearsals for each production
• Work within production budgets
• Ensure that health and safety policies and procedures are met at Blyth Festival worksites. You will review all relevant health & safety policies before any work is done in any shop, in the theatre, or by any member of the production department on behalf of the Blyth Festival off-site and will bring any necessary changes or updates to the attention of the PM on a timely basis.
• From time to time the PM may assign additional duties as required. These additional activities will be incorporated into your regular schedule, with advance notice given.
Qualifications / Required Skills
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Background and training in scenic construction, lighting and/or audio
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Strong and motivated work ethic
• Working knowledge of Vectorworks, ETC Eos, Qlab, Microsoft Office Suite, Dante
• Strong team player
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• First Aid and Working at Heights are required (Festival can assist with certification if necessary)
• Comfort working on ladders (A-frame and Extension)
• Valid G Driver’s License an asset
Salary: $1,214/wk + 4% vacation pay

In 2025, the Blyth Festival will produce a repertory season of four Canadian plays (2 world premieres) on the Margaret Stephens Stage, and one stand-alone production on the Harvest Stage.
The Blyth Festival production facilities include a 12000 sq ft, fully equipped carpentry, paint, prop and wardrobe shop, as well as office space, storage and rehearsal studio.
