Job Description / Duties

The Technical Coordinator provides technical support to the artists, clients and the community users of the Brockville Arts Centre. This position is responsible for the maintenance and safe operation of the lighting, sound and visual technical equipment and provides training to staff in the use of such equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Oversees lighting, sound and technician set-up of all shows and functions presented at the Arts Centre including load-ins, loadouts, and performances.
• Operates live audio console and related audio equipment for a variety of events including mixing concerts, monitors, sound cue playback for theatre, music and dance events, etc.
• Assists in all areas of theatre production support including, but not limited to:
o Lighting – Hang, focus, and lighting board operations and maintenance
o Sound - Sound setups, basic mixing, band setups, sound checks
o Flies - Rigging and operation of manual fly system.
o Carpentry - Basic stage carpentry.
o Video - Set up and operations of projection systems.
o Set up, strike and theatre reset as required by each show and event.

• Performs general maintenance and good upkeep of the production areas and monitors and assists with general building maintenance.
• Coordinates equipment needs with guest technicians and artists.
• Performs or assists with required inspections under the applicable Fire, Building, Health and Safety Legislation and Codes.
• Provides on the day training, guidance and support to user groups, community members and students using the theatre.
• Facilitates and oversees contracted work and repairs carried out on behalf of the Arts Centre as required.
• Supervises the work and safety of technical employees and volunteers including work on/with fly tower operation and providing an orientation on required equipment to volunteer and user groups.
• Provides input into the operating and capital budgets regarding ongoing technical requirements and makes recommendations on the purchasing of upgraded or replacement equipment.
• Provides advice and recommendation for proposed programming to ensure events can be hosted based on available resources and adjacent programming.
• Program, troubleshoot and maintain Cinema grade projector and media server. Including networking of devices as necessary.
• Provides advice to other departments with respect to lighting/video and audio inquiries
• Responsible for the coordination of the River of Lights
• Follows all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications:
• Two (2) year College diploma in Theatre Production or Live Performance Production or related field of study.
• A minimum of three (3) years of related experience
• Working at Heights Certificate, Standard First Aide/CPR Training and Rigging Training
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, good interpersonal skills, and excellent customer service skills.
• Strong knowledge of computers and software applications (MS Office Suite)
• Ability to work with live sound, digital live mixing consoles and related audio equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to work and assist a wide range of performance types including live music, theatre and dance, etc.
• Ability to work at heights and climb ladders
• Capable of safely lifting 50 pounds to head height
• Competent working with wood tools (mitre saw, table saw, jog saw, circular saw, etc.)
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Must be able to work a flexible work schedule which includes daytime, evenings and weekends.
