Job Description / Duties

The Production Department at Harbourfront Centre is looking for a collaborative and resourceful team player to join the team as a Technical Coordinator. For students enrolled in or returning to school, this is a seasonal contract position that runs from April 15th to September 30th.

Duties
Ensure production equipment in all venues is in good working order. Coordinate repairs and service as needed (with Technicians)
Manage outdoor venue production equipment load in, load out and maintenance.
Attend planning, programming, partner, and client meetings to exchange information and ideas (as required)
Assist with determining the necessary technical support required for each theatre or venue, including lights, sound, video, staging, and any special needs.
Assist with obtaining competitive quotes and arrange for rental of equipment.
Participate in regular department and festival meetings and follow through on assigned technical production action items.
Ensure all work is performed safely and according to the Health and Safety requirements.
Ensure production and technical schedules are followed.
Monitor to ensure that all assigned union casual technicians arrive on time.
Ensure that terms of the union agreement around breaks and hours are respected and adhered to.
Update information in Harbourfront Centre’s event management database Artifax (as required)
Ensure incident reports, timesheets and new hire packages are filled out properly (when required)
Collect employee documents for submission respecting the private nature of this information.
Enter data and maintain payroll spreadsheets for Technicians.
Operations and Maintenance of Stage Facilities
Maintain and safeguard technical assets, including supervision of lighting, sound, video, communications equipment, and stage facilities.
Facilitate and orient clients, casual technicians and visiting productions to safety, technical characteristics, and other areas of facility operations.
Liaise with Harbourfront Centre Site and Operations department and Grounds department with regards to requirements related to the safe operation of the site during festivals and events.
Take reasonable care of own health and safety and that of personnel, including volunteers and interns.
Ensure compliance with applicable obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Ensure technical staff and production team of visiting companies and rental clients have required certificates to perform duties.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Requirements
Attending or graduated from a post-secondary program in Technical Theatre Production.
Minimum one year working knowledge of techniques, methods and procedures of theatre, dance, and music productions and presentations including stage, set, video, sound and lighting design and implementation; stage management; computerized lighting systems; stage carpentry; appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
Strong understanding of the Ontario Ministry of Labour Guidelines for the Performance Industry.
Strong understanding of WHMIS.
Strong passion for the arts and client engagement.
Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Familiarity with both Windows and Mac operating systems.
Highly effective communication, presentation, interpersonal and relationship building skills required in working with individuals at all levels of the organization, arts and cultural partners and rental clients; foster open and honest relationships and communication, while respecting confidentiality.
Collaborative; seeking and celebrating the contribution of others.
Results oriented and proactive, with the ability to multitask, prioritize and work independently.
Uphold ethical standards and a pursuit of excellence and innovation.
Strong written and oral communications in dealing with a wide variety of people.

Experience working alongside and/or supervising IATSE union stagehands is an asset.
Knowledge of Canada’s arts community is an asset.
Experience with event management database software considered an asset.
Current Elevated Platform Operator Certificate is desirable.
Forklift Operator Certificate considered a plus.
Current Working at Heights Certificate is an asset.
Knowledge of AutoCAD, VectorWorks or Microsoft Visio is considered an asset.
Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. Non-Canadian applicants must have a valid employment Visa and proper documentation authorizing their ability to work in Canada for the full duration of the contract.

Salary: $27 to $30 per hour
