Job Description / Duties
Performing Arts at Banff Centre is looking for an experienced Staging Technician to join their high-functioning team as additional support for summer arts programming. Reporting to the Technical Manager, the Staging Technician will assist in the completion of tasks assigned to the Staging department including assisting with administrative duties and directing the work of practicum participants.
Specific Accountabilities
Performing Staging Technician work tasks including interpreting and generating technical information; load-ins and load-outs; running the show (as required); rigging; selecting and operating tools; safely operating and maintaining stage equipment
Overseeing the work of lower-leveled Staging Technicians and Staging Technician Practicum Participants
Assisting with the administration of the staging department including overseeing the safety of assigned crews within the supplied frameworks of budget, staffing, equipment, space, and time.
Staying current on related industry trends including the application of up-to-date techniques and use of special materials
Applying professional theatre techniques and methods to provide the quality, efficiency, safety, and support required by Performing Arts
Qualifications / Required Skills
We are considering applicants with varying levels of experience gained while working in a professional music, theatre, opera, or dance venue:
Level 1 Stage Technicians possess at least 2000 hours' experience as a working stage technician
Level 2 Stage Technicians possess at least 3 years' experience as a working stage technician
Level 3 Stage Technicians possess at least 5 years' experience as a working stage technician
Additional Information
Due to the nature of the job, this position requires the candidate to be available to work a flexible, irregular schedule and weekends.
Staging Technicians are frequently required to perform in a physical working environment with excessive noise, poor air quality, adverse temperatures, frequent and/or strenuous lifting, confined working spaces, work requiring uncomfortable body posture, extended periods of high monotony or concentration, and working at heights.
Staging Technicians will be frequently subjected to deadlines that will have significant consequences for the department if not met.
In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, termed, hourly support staff position, subject to a 500-hour probation period.
Subsidized local housing is available during the contract period.
Salary: $16.98 to $24.50 per hour depending on experience
