Job Description / Duties
The Blyth Festival is currently seeking a candidate to fill the seasonal position of Properties Assistant for the 2025 summer season. The contract will start May 12, 2025, and conclude September 21, 2025. The work of this position will take place both indoors and outdoors.
The Properties Assistant will report to the Head of Props and will be an integral member of the summer production team and changeover crew. The responsibilities include but are not limited to those normally associated with a similar position in other professional Canadian theatre companies. The responsibilities include:
• Working closely with the Head of Props and Designers to execute and manage designs within time and budget constraints
• Constructing, sourcing and acquiring props for all productions in the summer season
• Day to day use and maintenance of equipment and tools
• Participating in load-ins, fit ups, changeovers, and load outs for each production
• Ensuring that health and safety policies and procedures are met at Blyth Festival worksites
• Daily clean up and props maintenance activities in the props shop
• In the absence of the Head of Props, providing supervision to any other staff members who, from time to time, use the tools and props shop facilities
• Working in the paint shop to assist the scenic painter, as time and skills allow
• From time to time the Production Manager or Technical Director may assign additional duties as required. These duties will be scheduled with advance notice and incorporated into the regular work schedule
Qualifications / Required Skills
• Background and training in theatrical prop making
• Carpentry, sculpture, sewing and/or scenic painting skills an asset
• Problem solving and multi-tasking skills
• Team player
• Ability to lift 40 lbs
• Valid G Driver’s License an asset
Salary: $977/wk + 4% vacation pay

In 2025, the Blyth Festival will produce a repertory season of four Canadian plays (2 world premieres) on the Margaret Stephens Stage, and one stand-alone production on the Harvest Stage.
The Blyth Festival production facilities include a 12 000 sq ft, fully equipped carpentry, paint, prop and wardrobe shop, as well as office space, storage and rehearsal studio.
