Job Description / Duties

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day technical operations of the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre (PAC) including the efficient and effective delivery of production needs and theatrical services to both PAC Presenting series and rental clients. The Production Supervisor will ensure that daily production operations run smoothly by effectively supervising, advancing, organizing, planning, and overseeing the technical work activities required to guarantee production quality and an unparalleled client experience that supports the PAC’s operating policies, procedures, and objectives.
To be successful in this role, the Production Supervisor is required to be collaborative, organized, and have strong administrative skills. This position requires attention to detail and strong technical skills to ensure that the presentation on stage is given the care required to exceed audience, artist and client expectations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Production Operations

Support a service culture within the operations department that fosters technical quality and collaborative production by consistently conveying performance expectations and modeling the organization’s values.

Effectively communicate and liaise with clients, artists, and tour managers to ensure that their technical needs are met and advanced as required.

Assist clients, artists, and tour managers with the facilitation of required technical equipment, staffing and project materials.

Ensure that all performance related equipment and props have been safely installed, secured, and operated and that all sets, riggings, and theatrical tools are used as intended

Adhere to production schedules and budgets and ensure that deadlines are met.

Assist in the ongoing maintenance of technical equipment making certain all theatrical tools, devices and/or instruments are kept in good working order.

Consistently deliver professional and reliable production services to PAC clients and stakeholders, both within and outside of the company, to ensure exceptional customer, artist and audience experiences.

Set up meetings and provide tours to existing and potential clients.

Track and manage expenses ensuring the ability to capture all revenue and allocate costs accordingly.
Supervision, Support and Collaboration

Provide support, guidance and advice to clients, artists and internal team members on best practices in the technical areas of production operations.

Supervise the work of production team (i.e., IATSE crew and film techs), ensuring compliance with PAC policies and procedures.

Train, supervise, support and discipline technical crew as required and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.

Proactively evaluate the performance of technical team members ensuring all employment decisions are made in collaboration with the Production Manager.

Perform workplace inspections and actively support a safety culture by observing all safety guidelines and ensuring production team is aware of hazards and are trained in the appropriate use of all equipment.

Assist the appropriate positions with administrative duties related to show expenses, reports on performance and progress.

Identify issues in efficiency with labour and other resources and suggest improvements.

Ensure compliance with all relevant government legislation and regulations in addition to the IATSE collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Three (3) or more years’ experience providing production services for a professional performing arts centre or similar live entertainment venue, required.

Demonstrated previous experience in a supervisory or managerial production-related position.

Diploma in technical theatrical, sound production, events management, or a related discipline, preferred.

Working at Heights/ Fall Protection certificate required.

Current First Aid CPR certificate required.

Theatre and production experience an asset.

Working knowledge of ETC and GrandMA consoles considered an asset.

Previous experience working in a unionized environment considered an asset.

KEY CANDIDATE COMPETENCIES
Strong communication and organization skills.

Practical working knowledge of the theatre environments.

Demonstrated ability to interpret a collective agreement.

Strong knowledge and understanding of various production technologies and software applications (i.e., lighting design software, digital sound, and lighting consoles, etc.)

Ability to effectively supervise, coach and evaluate the performance of others.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team with little supervision.

Excellent interpersonal and customer care service skills.

Ability to liaison with key internal and external stakeholders and build strong working relationships.

Flexibility and willingness to adapt as business demands.

Ability to multitask and maintain great attention to detail.

Willingness to assume other duties and responsibilities as needed.

Salary: $32.96-$38 per hour (Sept 1st - June 30th)

Opening our doors in 2015, the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre (the PAC) is a 95,000 square foot arts and culture hub located in downtown St. Catharines, Ontario, serving the Niagara region. The centre features 4 separate venues under one roof as well as an outdoor performance space, and is supported by a team of 25 full-time, and 40 part-time staff and over 100 volunteers. Events showcase music, dance, theatre, film, comedy, speakers, meetings and community gatherings, ranging from 200-800-person capacity.
