Job Description / Duties

Theatre Calgary is seeking an energetic and collaborative individual to fulfil the role of Production Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing personnel and all production related aspects of the shows produced by Theatre Calgary.

The role of Production Manager will report directly to the Director of Artistic Operations and offers a unique opportunity to help shape the production department during a reorganisation. Additional production roles will be filled at a later date allowing for a collaborative assignment of tasks and duties.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Detailed and accurate budgeting, financial reporting and control for all production elements, including season shows, overhead, rentals, and personnel
• Overseeing individual production operations
• Direct supervision and coaching of Stage Managers, and production-specific support staff (such as Production Coordinators); indirect supervision of crew and assistant stage management staff
• Acting as a leader with Occupational Health & Safety protocols
• The ability to negotiate with Designers, agents, and skilled technical labour
• The ability to create detailed and efficient human resource scheduling
• A desire to mentor young theatre artists in training
• Acting as lead and point of contact for rentals and stakeholder relations related to rentals

Qualifications / Required Skills

• A positive attitude and a willingness to go above and beyond when necessary
• Exceptional communication, supervisory, and technical skills
• Strong, proven ability to manage, coach and mentor direct reports
• Experience managing production budgets
• Strong organizational skills, including balancing multiple responsibilities and effectively meeting deadlines
• Proven ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
• Experience with contract negotiation, execution and compliance; specific experience with IATSE 212, Canadian Actors’ Equity Association, the Canadian Theatre Agreement, and Associated Designers of Canada are considered assets
• Being adaptable and able to work in a changing environment
• Alignment with Theatre Calgary’s mission, vision and values and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
• Knowledge in operation of all theatrical departments.
• Creative thinking and problem solving.
• Proficiency with Microsoft office suite is essential, experience with AutoCad an asset but not essential.

Additional Information

Working conditions:

This is a salaried full time position working year round and will require some work during evenings, weekends and holidays. Overtime worked can be banked and offered back as time in lieu.

Theatre Calgary is a member of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres and operates within the jurisdiction of the Canadian Theatre Agreement and IATSE local 212. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge and adhere to these agreements and offer guidance for negotiations.

After initial probationary period employees will be eligible to join our group RRSP plan with employer matching and comprehensive healthcare program. Theatre Calgary also offers 15 days’ vacation at the start of employment, 3 flex days and 8 wellness days as well as a progressive work from home policy.

Salary: $70,000 - $75,000/year
