Job Description / Duties
Full-time, Continuing, 10-Month Sessional
The Production Manager is responsible for the coordination of activities in the Motyer Fancy Theatre including scheduling, production management, and preparation and maintenance of the operating budget for a theatre season which can include 6-8 productions per year. They work in partnership with the Resident Designer and report directly to the Director of Drama.
This role includes tasks in production management as well as technical direction and design, front of house management, and general administration. The position is based on flexible working hours that require evenings and weekends periodically.
With the Resident Designer, the Production Manager is also responsible for the technical requirements of the theatre, including management of equipment, supervision of students in set construction and lighting, and the run and strike of productions. Both the Production Manager and Resident Designer ensure that proper safety procedures are followed in all theatre spaces.
Responsibilities
• In consultation with the Resident Designer, establish production and season schedules and lead production meetings
• With the Resident Designer and Director of Drama, develop and manage production budgets and overall program budget
• Crewing of productions
• Technical coordination for productions including costing, implementation, and breakdown of designs
• Coordinate lighting designs for productions, which may involve lighting design and/or mentoring student designers
• Coordinate sound design for productions, which may involve sound design and/or mentoring student designers
• Mentor students, informally and through independent studies
• Coordinate stage management for production, including student mentorship
• Responsible for on-site supervision of all production activities (this task may be shared with other faculty/staff)
• Supervise student technicians in the areas of Theatre Production and Front of House
• With the Resident Designer, recommend, purchase, and ensure safe implementation of equipment in the theatre and theatre shops
• Purchase general supplies and equipment for Drama and Screen Studies program
• Responsible for Facility management, including inventory and equipment maintenance, and organization of theatre spaces
• Responsible for Venue management for rentals, in collaboration with Director of Drama
• Provide Audio-visual support: setting up of equipment for events in the theatre
• Perform other duties as required
Qualifications / Required Skills
• Professional/academic training in Theatre Production or equivalent combination of education and experience (3-5 years)
• Knowledge/experience in lighting and sound design is an asset
• Teaching/supervisory experience is an asset
• First Aid training and Fall Arrest certification (can be executed on-site)

The Motyer-Fancy Theatre is a flexible multi-purpose studio production space. It serves as the primary laboratory facility for the Drama and Screen Studies Program at Mount Allison University. As such, it is the centre of informed, guided, process-driven theatre production on the campus.
