Job Description / Duties

Reporting to the Artistic Director and GM, the Production Manager is responsible for overseeing all technical & production elements for productions produced and/or presented by Lunchbox Theatre.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Oversee budgets for the department’s seasonal supplies and production expenses.
• In conjunction with the artistic director and the general manager, scheduling of productions, including rehearsals and performances, design and construction deadlines, production meetings, tech weeks, strike and load-outs.
• Ensure compliance with all government policies, collective agreements and engagement contracts (i.e. Canadian Theatre Agreement and Associated Designers of Canada Agreement), as well as company policies including Lunchbox Theatres code of conduct.
• Work with Designers reviewing Set, Props, Costume, Lighting, Sound, and Projection designs to ensure effectiveness, efficiency, cost, and safety.
• Arrangement of procurement/delivery of all production elements
• Working with directors and designers in realizing production elements by supervision or participation in the construction and installation of sets, props, lights, & sound
• Organization of dry cleaning/wardrobe maintenance in conjunction with Stage Management
• Overseeing of all returns in a timely fashion
• Participation in and management of tech week to ensure any problems that may arise are resolved satisfactorily prior to opening.
• Responsible for running production meetings and taking and disseminating meeting notes
• Work with all technical and creative personnel to ensure that there is open communication between all departments.
• Create technical drawings for construction of sets and props.
• Research, source and order the optimal equipment to be used to realize designs.
• Coordinate and supervise set load-ins and fit-ups, technical rehearsals, strikes and maintenance.
• Ensure the safety of the workplace by helping to establish and enforcing all health, security and safety policies and procedures.
• Oversees the management & inventory of the theatre’s off-site storage spaces.
• Other responsibilities as may be reasonably assigned by the artistic director or general manager.

Qualifications / Required Skills

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
• Experience in managing budgets.
• Experience working with the Canadian Theatre Agreement (CTA) and with Associated Designers of Canada (ADC).
• Proven attention to detail, consistency, and accuracy.
• Familiarity with production techniques and cost estimation.
• Experience working with designers and directors.
• A knowledge of all elements of theatre production.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
• Technical skills in lighting, sound, projections and special effects.
• Strong carpentry skills including scenic construction techniques and cost estimation.
• A strong working knowledge of Vectorworks with the ability to create detailed construction drawings.
• Experience working in Excel spreadsheets using formulas.
• Ability to maintain a high quality of workmanship, achieving the attention to detail that the Theatre requires.
• Knowledge of employment, labour and occupational health and safety laws and standards.
• Ability to interact and adapt to a wide variety of situations and temperaments.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Degree in Technical Theatre with 2-5 years’ experience working in a professional theatre company OR equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Comfortable working at heights and able to lift 50lbs.
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or equivalent) and clean Driver’s Abstract
• Able to rent vehicles and comfortable driving large vehicles.

Additional Information

Lunchbox Theatre encourages a team-oriented environment. All personnel are required to participate in a wide range of activities or take on additional responsibilities from time to time that may be outside of the Core Responsibilities & Duties for each position.

HOURS OF WORK
20-40 hours per week depending on the production schedule with some evenings and weekends required. Hybrid work including work-from-home is encouraged where possible. As this is a management position, overtime is not applicable. Lunchbox Theatre encourages Managers to organize their schedules as required to balance out heavier work periods vs. lighter in order to maintain a healthy work/life balance.

COMPENSATION
• $45,000-$48,000 per year, paid monthly.
• 4 weeks holidays per annum plus stat holidays.
• Extended Health and Dental plan after 3 months with cost shared 30/70 between employee and employer.

• LBT rehearsals are 5 days a week (M-F) and we strive to have no 10/12’s and limit our work to 8-hour days during tech rehearsals.
