Job Description / Duties
ABOUT THE POSITION
Crow’s Theatre seeks an energetic and motivated Producer to join our team.
Our dream candidate will be a proactive team-player who can work flexibly within a creative environment. Reporting to the Senior Producer, this individual will be one of the primary liaisons to the theatre’s artists, coproducers, partners, guest companies and all applicable labour and industry associations. The Producer will take an active role in fostering a collaborative and supportive working environment for all staff, volunteers and visiting artists.
Main duties and responsibilities are related to Crow’s Theatre’s artistic production and programming, including management of production related contracts and coordination of season programming and play development activities. The Producer will assist with touring logistics, budget tracking, reconciliation of production and rental settlements, and where applicable, reports related to production and progamming. The Producer shall be accountable, be a driving force, and demonstrate leadership in regard to production teams, production related timelines, deadlines and tasks, ensuring completion in a timely manner. This position is an integral person in Crow’s team and will work with the Senior Producer and cross-departments to bring Crow’s productions and programming to fruition.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Administration & Operations:
• Under the supervision of the Senior Producer, the Producer shall contribute to the creation and management of production, co-production in-associations, presentations, and touring budgets for any potential productions including, but not limited to; theatre, new play development, dance, music, any and all programming related to Crow’s Theatre.
• Producer shall work with the Senior Producer and other Crow’s departments to manage season schedules and critical paths for Artistic Programming.
• Producer shall stay up to date on current labour agreements and best practices related to Theatre, Dance and Opera which may impact contracting and budgeting practices.
Producer will be available for key events in the season as needed, including but not limited to: Opening Nights, Preview Performances, Events, Annual Gala, and meetings.
Production & Programming:
• Producer shall be a primary liaison to the Theatre’s artists, co-producers and partners and will assist in post-show financial reconciliations as needed.
• Producer shall support the Senior Producer and General Manager in helping to execute the successful and timely negotiations of artistic and production contract engagements, including but not limited to actors, directors, playwrights, designers, stage management and production personnel.
• Producer shall be accountable and demonstrate leadership while working with production teams to ensure timely completion for all production related timelines, deadlines and tasks.
Financial Management:
• The Producer will support the Senior Producer and General Manager in the management of programming seasonal budgets.
• Producer shall work across department(s) when necessary, on budgetary elements and support the accurate tracking and final actuals reporting.
• Producer shall be accountable for financial aspects relating to Programming activities. These aspects shall include but not be limited to:
• payroll related to production as per contracting
• liaising with Bookkeeper or Finance Manager on production related expenses and revenues
• ensuring account coding for revenues and expenditures are executed correctly for programming related expenses and revenues
• timely payment disbursement to contracted artists, persons, suppliers, and other payables
• accurate reconciliation of petty cash related to programming
• other duties as required, and subject to change.
Qualifications / Required Skills
• A minimum of 3+ years' experience in producing, production management or equivalent
• Highly motivated and self-driven with a demonstrable record of productivity and aptitude
• Demonstrable familiarity and experience with applicable industry labour agreements
• 3+ years’ experience with production budgeting with production or season budgets
• Highly proficient in computer programs: Office 365 Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Planner, Sharepoint, etc. Knowledge of Mac computers and systems an asset
• Ability to work well under pressure, independently, or as part of a team
• Detail-oriented with strong verbal and written communication skills
• This position is full time, with some evening and weekend work required throughout the season
Additional Information
COMPENSATION
This is a full-time permanent position. A competitive package will be provided with salary commensurate with experience in the range of $55,000 to $65,000. The position includes participation in Crow’s extended health benefits and pension plan.
