Job Description / Duties

Specific responsibilities:

Operations Manager
Manages the front of house and box office operations for Studio Theatre, Convocation Hall, Winspear events and the Fine Arts Building, including monitoring ticket sales and researching audience demographics.
Manages the administrative aspects of the in-house shows in the Fine Arts Building and the Timms Centre, including the Second Playing Space.
Manages all rental operations, budgeting, contracts, and invoices, in the Timms Centre, the Fine Arts Building, and Convocation Hall.
Manages event scheduling and facility/equipment maintenance.
Manages performance rights and artistic contracting for events in Studio Theatre and Convocation Hall.
Plays a leadership role around all aspects of Studio Theatre and in-house production seasons, including managing business, communication, and administrative processes, initiating improvements and new ideas, and proposing changes and solutions to recurring issues.

Talent Manager
Identifies, acquires, manages and supports collective and individual talent. Proactively identifies and plans for future talent needs.
Works towards establishing a diverse workforce reflective of the broader community by identifying and working to remove barriers to access.
Builds and strengthens the team by leveraging diverse capabilities of staff.
Develops the talents of staff; builds capacity and capability.
Creates an environment where diverse ideas, perspectives, and achievements are recognized, rewarded and celebrated.

Relationship Manager
Takes initiative to develop and manage relationships with performing arts groups, bringing presentations to the Fine Arts Departments that will enhance student and community access to new and different works.
Manages and carries out all aspects of the department’s relationship with Canadian Actor’s Equity. Liaises with other professional arts organizations, unions, and associations as required.
Develops productive relationships with service partners assigned to the area and collaborates with them to provide information and services.
Demonstrates inclusivity in work processes and work teams. Actively seeks out and invites alternative viewpoints in planning, discussions, and decision making. Recognizes and mediates or removes barriers to inclusive engagement.
Liaise with contract maintenance, Parking Services, SMS, Finance, and Facilities and Operations as appropriate for maintenance of each event space.

Strategic Resource
Contributes professional and managerial expertise to the development of plans, objectives, solutions, policies and procedures.
Manages and monitors the Timms Facilities fund.
Sets annual ticket sales targets and events-related revenues for Drama and Music as these provide revenue for Department activities.
Negotiates, manages, and monitors the contracts with the external box office agent and catering firms.
Completes environment scanning and assesses opportunities and risks. Tracks key analytics and develops reports to support decision making.
Anticipates major changes affecting the area and mobilizes resources to implement changes. Remains focused on the desired outcome to help self and others implement change.

Qualifications / Required Skills

In order to achieve the desired outcomes of the position, the successful candidate will possess the following experience, skills and abilities:

Undergraduate degree supplemented by education in business and accounting.
Five years in theatre or arts administration/management.
Excellent communication, supervision, and interpersonal skills.
Experience working within a post-secondary environment, special event coordination, and contract negotiations considered an asset.
High level of analytical and problem solving skills and critical thinking skills.
Excellent written and oral communications skills with the ability to negotiate, consult, influence and build consensus at the highest levels.
Planning, organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work independently.
Proven ability to work consultatively and collaboratively with team members from different areas of expertise.
Extensive knowledge of the University of Alberta policies, procedures and operating requirements considered an asset.

Salary: annual salary range of $62,475 - $104,123.
