The GRAND is hiring a HEAD LIGHTING TECHNICIAN

What you’ll be doing:
- Coordinating and overseeing all lighting activities for the Studio, Flanagan Theatre and Lobby spaces.
- Acting as operational and running crew in the Studio and Flanagan Theatre as assigned
- Supervising casual technicians in cooperation with the Head Stage Carpenter/Rigger and Head of Sound
- Inspecting, maintaining and repairing all lighting equipment and tools
- Maintaining a comprehensive and up-to-date inventory of all lighting equipment
- Leading/ assisting with scenic carpentry projects as needed
- Maintaining the cleanliness of the stage, backstage and workshop areas
- Operating rigging systems and related equipment, as required
- Maintaining a safe working environment at all times by conforming to all established safety policies and procedures
- Following all company procedures regarding incident/ accident reporting and Human Resources policies, including completion of the Respect in the Workplace program
- Attending all production meetings, load ins, set-ups, rehearsals, events/ performances, strikes, load outs, and maintenance calls as scheduled
- Ensuring efficiency in communications and contributing to the overall effectiveness of the technical team
- Assisting other departments as assigned
- Assisting with the maintenance of technical equipment outside the lighting area
- In the absence of the Head Stage Carpenter Technician, serving as Fire Warden for the Flanagan Theatre
- Cross departmental work is expected where appropriate
- In the absence of the Head Stage Carpenter Technician, complete and submit Show Reports

Qualifications / Required Skills

ABILITY TO USE TECHNOLOGY AND SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS: Consistently uses relevant software

REQUIRED SKILLS
- Extensive knowledge of ETC EOS Software and console operation; Video Projector installation and set-up, and Playback Softwares (Q-Lab; Watchout; Isadora)
- Good general understanding of all technical aspects of live performing arts and events, including Theatre, Dance, Music and Corporate events
- Ability to interpret technical and design drawings
- Good organizational and communication skills
- Interested in collaborating as part of a dynamic technical team a must
- Standard First Aid with CPR certification, Fall Protection training, and WHMIS certification
- Knowledge of Stage Rigging and Theatre Sound an asset
- Experience with Vectorworks and Microsoft’s Outlook suite an asset

Additional Information

Reporting to the Technical Director, the Head Lighting Technician is an integral part of the technical production team at The GRAND. The GRAND technicians work under a collective bargaining agreement with Local 212 of IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees). The position will be required to work evenings and weekends as required based on scheduled events in the facility.

This position will include hours worked in-office and at-home. In office work will take place in The GRAND building located at 608 1 St SW in Calgary, Alberta.
