Job Description / Duties
The Port Theatre Society is seeking a professional audio technician for the position of Head of Audio to join our leadership team. This is a full time, salaried position and offers an extensive benefit package.
This position reports to the Technical Director and directly supervises part time staff on an as-needed basis.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Technical Director, the Head of Audio is primarily responsible for all aspects of audio as it pertains to events in the theatre. This includes planning and running events, supervising staff, and working collaboratively with peers. This is a customer service position – there is an expectation to interface with clients in a positive and constructive manner.
While the primary focus will be on Audio, the Head of Audio will be expected to assist the Production Team in all areas of theatre management as required.
Qualifications / Required Skills
The successful candidate will have:
- Completion of an accredited post-secondary program in technical theatre or the equivalent combination (5 years or more) of relevant experience and education
- Demonstrated experience in live mixing for a wide variety of disciplines
- Knowledge of industry best practices related to audio production and sound reinforcement
- Knowledge of current safety standards
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage maintenance and ongoing capital development of the house audio system
- Experience and proven ability in supervising and nurturing casual and part-time staff
- Ability to contact clients to advance upcoming events as needed
- Ability to provide expertise and assistance to both community and professional touring clientele
- Strong computer literacy including basic networking knowledge
- Reasonable stage craft skills
- Some physical work is required, including but not limited to, heavy lifting and climbing ladders, aerial lifts and working at heights
- Experience with RF management
- An interest in lifelong learning and professional development
- A willingness to teach, share knowledge, and be a team player
Additional Information
At the time of posting, compensation is $32.46/hour with applicable overtime escalations. After a three-month probationary period, new hires are eligible to be included in an company benefits plan. This position starts with three weeks of paid vacation. Work on evenings and weekends is expected.
