Job Description / Duties
Theatre Newfoundland Labrador (TNL) is seeking applicants for the position of HEAD CARPENTER - to assist in the setup, installation, and owner’s forces builds for TNL’s new venue for its Gros Morne Theatre Festival (The Nurse Myra Bennett Centre for the Performing Arts) - and for the Gros Morne Theatre Festival’s 2020 season.

Qualifications / Required Skills
Skills/Experience Required:
- at least 3-5 years experience as a professional Theatre Carpenter
- experience in repertory theatre is an asset
- team-oriented, punctual, reliable, safe work ethic
- must enjoy working in a challenging creative environment
- experience in estimating/costing theatre set designs
- able to produce/read working drawings for theatre set designs
- experience in planning/execution of theatre set builds, meeting deadlines
- experience in furniture building (work tables, catch tables, etc., props furniture)
- a background in rigging is an asset
- mentoring junior production staff
- must have fall arrest certification
- a valid driver’s license is required
Additional Information
Contract Dates (tentative): January 6, 2020 to July 26, 2020
The Festival provides return travel (equivalent to the most economical method) for contracted company members.
The Festival provides shared housing in the community for company members. A housing rental fee and damage deposit applies.
Salary: $550.00-$650.00/week - depends on experience

The Gros Morne Theatre Festival is a summer repertory theatre festival operated by Theatre Newfoundland Labrador. Each season the Festival produces six productions – three mainstage shows and three studio shows. The Gros Morne Theatre Festival is in the seaside community of Cow Head, Newfoundland and Labrador, which is situated in the spectacular Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Nurse Myra Bennett Centre for the Performing Arts is a newly constructed, state-of-the-art facility, featuring a 178-seat proscenium style theatre with lobby and bar, a smaller studio theatre/rehearsal hall, offices, full production facilities, and a commercial kitchen for preparation of dinner theatre meals. The Grand Unveiling of this facility will take place on June 5-7, 2020.
