JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Dispatch Supervisor, dispatchers refer casual workers to various employers on a gig-to-gig basis. Dispatchers use the Local’s dispatch database to match workers to gigs based on skillset and seniority, as well as maintain and update this database. This job is done remotely – please be sure to read the full job posting for further details.
This is a great opportunity for someone who is organized and understands the live entertainment workplace.
Dispatch is a highly dynamic work environment with tight time constraints. Organizational ability is important as Dispatcher must handle many tasks simultaneously, while balancing priorities. Dispatchers must remain cool, organized, and effective in what can sometimes be a high-pressure work environment. Occasionally they must manage conflict and dissatisfied workers and employers, while upholding the Local’s policy and procedures.
Dispatch is open 7 days per week, from 8am to 8pm. Dispatch is open on many Statutory holidays, usually with reduced staffing and/or reduced hours.
Full-time Dispatchers work five 8-hour shifts per week and may be scheduled anytime during operating hours, or earlier if acting as an “opener”. Dispatchers who are “openers” begin ahead of opening hours, at 7:30am. Weekend work will likely be required, as well as occasional overtime.
Ahead of being hired, Dispatchers must discuss with the Dispatch Supervisor if they have any commitments that would interfere with working during any of the aforementioned days and times.
