Job Description / Duties
The Faculty of Fine Arts is currently accepting applications for the position of Fine Arts Technician II in the Department of Drama. This is a full time 10-month sessional position starting September 3rd, 2019.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Technical Director of the University Theatres, this position is responsible for assisting with the construction, modification, installation of scenic elements, to facilitate the pulling from storage, building or purchase of props, furniture and set dressing for departmental theatre productions.

• Performing skilled building and other construction tasks in accordance with theatrical standards;
• Recommending appropriate strategies for obtaining props, furniture, and set dressing;
• Determining safe building methods; building approved designs; maintaining the departmental properties inventory;
• Facilitating use of the properties inventory for delivery of Drama curriculum;
• Assisting in maintaining assigned Drama technical spaces;
• Coordinating with other relevant Drama technical staff in maintaining power and hand tools inventory;
• Maintaining safety data on all equipment and implementing safety protocols.
This position plays an integral role in supporting the delivery of technical and design courses and the course-oriented outcomes of the programs of study within the Department of Drama by providing applied technical instructional support, including demonstrating techniques, mentoring, coordinating and supervising students and other casual hired technicians.
Qualifications / Required Skills
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in theatre production a minimum of four (4) years of related experience; a suitable combination of education and experience may be considered.
The successful candidate should have the ability to perform manual duties often requiring strenuous physical exertion.
The incumbent must possess a thorough knowledge of materials and processes related to technical theatre practices and must be able to assist. Clearly instruct students in the safe and efficient operation of a variety of different manual and mechanical tools related to theatre production. Strong woodworking skills would be an asset.
The successful candidate will possess the following qualities; strong communication and teamwork skills within a collaborative environment, and the ability to manage competing priorities while paying attention to details. Given the nature of the course offerings and production work this position will be required to work some evenings and weekends.

Salary: $4,520.00 - $5,053.00 monthly
