Job Description / Duties

Working as an integral member of the production team of Neptune theatre, reporting to the Head of Wardrobe, the dresser provides efficient and reliable ongoing maintenance of all costumes, accessories, and wardrobe elements, and acts as a costume builder and member of the wardrobe running crew for Neptune Theatre productions and presentations. As a member of the wardrobe running crew, the dresser prepares costumes for each performance, laundering and cleaning them as required, and assists with costume changes backstage during the performances. Terms of engagement are per the collective agreement between IATSE 680 and Neptune Theatre. Hours of work for this position will typically be Tuesday to Sunday, 45 hours per week. This position is typically engaged from September through May each season. The successful candidate will be hired for August 19th, 2024 – May 18th, 2025 for the upcoming season. Some work may be available earlier than these dates.

Qualifications / Required Skills

The Dresser will be required lift weights up to 25 pounds, work on uneven surfaces, and work in dimly lit environments.

The ideal Dresser for Neptune Theatre can communicate and work well with a cross-section of theatre professionals, including actors, designers, directors, and fellow production crew members. The Dresser will maintain composure during the stress of live performances while reliably executing their duties backstage during, and between shows. The Dresser will also be a skilled sewer, familiar with industrial and household sewing machines and equipment, and capable of repairing off the shelf and custom made costume pieces.

The Dresser will need to work well independently, and in cooperation with the rest of the production team, preparing notes for each production’s running-track, assembled from data collected from department heads, stage management and designers.

Salary: The hourly rate, as set by the IATSE CBA, is $24.56
