Job Description / Duties

Position Summary
Working with and in support of the Executive and Artistic Directors, and in consultation with the leadership team, the Director of Communications leads the organization’s patron development staff, strategies, initiatives in the areas of marketing, communications, sales, as well as community engagement and outreach.
The Director of Communications will work closely with the Development and Sales teams on implementing and overseeing all marketing and communications strategies and campaigns in support of achieving annual revenue goals of $5 million in addition to the building redevelopment project.

Major Responsibilities
In concert with the Director of Sales and Patron Experience and Director of Development, be responsible for delivering on the theatre’s marketing strategies and campaigns in support of achieving $5 million in revenue per year from a wide variety of sources including subscriptions, single tickets, sponsorship, donations, grants, and special events.

This position is responsible for all marketing efforts to cultivate, retain and grow an annual audience of more than 60,000 people on the main stage and second stage. This includes the development and execution of print, radio, online, television, mail and web advertising campaigns; building mail lists, developing content and oversight of distribution of e-communications; and the implementation of marketing plans for all revenue streams including subscription, single ticket, theatre school, major gift and annual donor campaigns.

• Create and implement detailed timelines for all marketing activities throughout the season including, but not limited to, graphic design, copy, proofing, printing and mailing deadlines.
• Develop and manage the annual marketing plan and budget.
• Prepare monthly Marketing budget updates.
• In conjunction with the Director of Sales and Patron Services, prepare weekly income projection updates.
• Develop and update subscription, single ticket, patron retention, annual fund campaign, and Theatre School plans including timelines and budgets.
• Oversee art direction and copy writing for marketing collateral using best-practice direct marketing principles.
• Together with the Director of Sales and Patron Services, conduct weekly revenue pacing meetings to inform marketing investments and strategies.
• Develop, pitch and cultivate all major media sponsors.
• Oversee the production and content of show programs, ensuring that credits are inclusive and correct and are approved by senior management and artists.
• Ensure that artist biographies and photos are received from all artists for each production and that these are included in the house program as well as displayed in the theatre lobby.
• Coordinate and liaise with the media.
• Remain fully knowledgeable of all clauses within the Canadian Theatre Agreement and the PACT/ADC agreements pertaining to publicity, photo calls, media shoots, billing and program credits.
• Together with the Communications team, schedule and supervise photo shoots for each production.
• Oversee preparation and distribution of press kits for each production to media, playwrights, directors, designers, composers and actors.
• Ensure that archival files of all promotional materials for each production and for each season are prepared and maintain.
• Develop a rolling 2-year marketing and communications plan aligned to strategic and mission driven priorities.
• Manage, guide, and grow the Globe Theatre brand and identity.

Qualifications and Experience
A bachelor’s degree in an industry related program is an asset. Qualified candidates will have at least 5 years of progressive experience at a leadership level with increasing responsibility in a marketing leadership role, preferably in the performing arts or marketing sectors. A strong track record in budgeting, analysis and forecasting skills, with a proven proficiency in implementing and evaluating sales and marketing campaigns. The Director of Communications will be an experienced and entrepreneurial professional with the vision to actively pursue the Globe’s ambitious goals with creativity and determination and will have a high degree of personal accountability and a commitment to exceeding expectations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working in a sector where patron or customer loyalty is essential, and will have experience in data-driven marketing, advertising, media buying and social media within a sales environment. Direct experience and expertise in market research and audience development would be an asset.
Candidates should have a strong command of MS Office and proficiency in Theatre Manager, or a similar CRM system would be beneficial. The candidate should be available to work evenings and weekends according to the schedule of relevant theatre-based events.

Additional Information

Salary is based on qualifications and experience.
Range $60,000 -$75,000
