Job Description / Duties

This position works directly with the Designers, Assistant Designers, Wardrobe and Wigs & Make Up Department staff to ensure required items are purchased for each production. Purchasing will happen in person, as well as online. This position requires daily trips for in person shopping to surrounding cities such as, Kitchener, Waterloo, London and Toronto. Fabric shopping trips to New York may also be required. This position reports to the Costume Director and is part of the Wardrobe Department team.

Responsibilities:
• Purchasing and researching: fabrics, modern/vintage/historical clothing pieces, notions, hair and make- up products
• Responsible for ordering, tracking and maintaining fabric stock
• Assist with ensuring items purchased are within budgeted amounts
• Responsible for tracking and submitting receipts for credit card and petty cash purchases as well as mileage forms
• Create itineraries and execute shopping trips for Designers, Assistant Designers and Costume Buyers by coordinating transportation with the Technical Management Assistant
• Responsible for meeting purchasing deadlines
• Oversee the notions budgets and ensure items are fully stocked
• Maintain and establish excellent relations with wholesalers and retail suppliers

Qualifications / Required Skills

• A car, valid driver’s license and passport are required for this position
• A good knowledge base of costume history is an asset
• Working knowledge of fabric, sewing, millinery, dyeing, boots and shoes, jewelry making supplies and wig supplies are an asset
• Experience working with customs paperwork an asset
• Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and problem solving skills are required
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight timelines in a fast paced work environment
• A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Suite is required

Preference will be given to candidates with previous costume buying experience in theatre, film, television or other related industries.

Additional Information

This full time seasonal contract position is located in Stratford, Ontario and will begin December 2021.

Salary: Hourly Salary: $23.80-$26.00
