Job Description / Duties

Reporting to the Technical Director, the Assistant Production Manager will aid in the scheduling, execution and management of Vancouver Opera’s production operations. This will be an For the 2021-22 Season, the Assistant Production Manager will aid in the scheduling and implementation of a Young Artist Scene Study and support the Technical Director in the organization and management of Vancouver Opera’s mainstage production, HMS Pinafore.

As part of Vancouver Opera’s environmental sustainability effort, the Assistant Production Manager may be asked to participate in green initiatives including fiscally responsible energy resources, amortizations strategies, as well as cultivating new networking opportunities for future planning.

This person must have strong communication skills with an ability to prioritize details of a collaborative process. The Assistant Production Manager should be a self-motivated individual, with a strong experience in creative challenges and timelines.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist the Technical Director in the organization and leadership of the Production Department
• Aid in effective management of stakeholder relationships, staff and financial resources
• Prepare Departmental Meetings Agendas and Published Approved Minutes
• Liaise with head of departments, scenic leads and artistic staff in the preparation, logistics and delivery of show elements and rentals
• Curate, review and publish schedules based on departmental needs as approved by Technical Director, Stage Management and Director of Artistic Planning
• Co-ordinate and communicate scheduling of all theatre, shop, and production activities in collaboration with supervisors
• Assist in the management and efficiency of union schedules, production budgets and internal department communication
• Attend and participate in Staff and Production Meetings, Performance Notes and other calls as needed by the Technical Director and agreed upon by both parties
• In conjunction with Heads of Departments, coordinate efficient Production Equipment Maintenance, Health and Safety Administration and programs
• Assist the production department with green initiatives; including tracking and energy amortization strategies to continue improvements of Vancouver Opera’s Climate Smart certification.
• Assist in Vancouver Opera’s archival and digitization networking
• Foster a culture of inclusion and continuous improvement across all teams, activities and environments

Qualifications / Required Skills

• Graduate of a Post-Secondary Education in Theatrical Production
• Superior communication and organizational skills in effective deadline deliverables
• Experience in crew management and artistic performance
• Efficient computer skills including but not limited to:
o Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Powerpoint); Dropbox; Zoom; Google Drive
• Knowledge of architectural drafting programs beneficial
• Deep interest in Theatrical Live Entertainment and its role in our contemporary world

This is a season contract position until May 13, 2022.
