What's New > Town Hall: OK Stage Managers – What now? What do YOU need? (free event)
It is an understatement that the world has literally changed over the last three years, but did we actually make any of the big changes in our industry we discussed while in lockdown?
While we have hustled back to production, it seems like everything is harder, takes longer, and people are leaving the sector. So WHAT NOW? What do YOU need as a stage manager?

SMArts invites stage managers of all levels of experience to come together to have this conversation and brainstorm in an “Open Space” format with large and small group discussions. You will drive the agenda and discussions – and their hope for the end of this is a list of ideas, actions, and recommendations that they can share out and build on.
Topics could include (but YOU will decide):
· What is needed from post-secondary schools? What training should stage management students receive at the post-secondary level? What are they missing out on? What should educational institutions be doing to better prepare the next generation?
· What do you need from organizations and engagers?
· Where are the gaps, blind spots and poorly managed expectations within our industry about the role of the stage manager?
· What do you need from Equity?
· What further training do you need / would like?
· For students – what do you need to change about the industry and stage management to reflect your perspectives?
· For new stage managers – what do you need to get into this sector?
· For experienced stage managers – what do you need to keep you in this sector?
· What is keeping you up at night?
· What do you need from SMArts that you are not already getting?
It has been 25 years since Winston Morgan founded this organization – where do we go from here?
SMArts Executive Director, Janelle Rainville and Board President Jeanne LeSage will facilitate – but this is really YOUR time.
