Job Description / Duties

The Wardrobe Cutter is a permanent, full time seasonal position (dates vary by season, but typically mid/late summer to early/mid spring).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Interprets costumes as assigned under the direction of the Head of Wardrobe and the Show Designer.
• Drafts, and /or drapes the patterns as necessary for the production of the costumes.
• Oversees, and assists in the preparation of the costume fabrics, notions, and trims.
• Cuts the patterns in mock-up, and show fabrics as required, and organizes the work to be assigned to the sewers.
• Monitors the sewing and construction of garments, delegating the
workload to sewers.
• Attends fittings adjusting costumes to the Designer's specifications.
• Is responsible for the alterations, labeling, and building of costumes,
and the assignment of this work to the team.
• Attends rehearsals and runs, as necessary, and initiates any desired
changes/alterations.
• Responds to costume requests from the Head of Wardrobe,
Wardrobe Maintenance, and the Designer during Previews.
• Conducts repairs and alterations during the run of the show.

Qualifications / Required Skills

IDEAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
• Three or more years of professional work experience in a costume
shop/theatre environment.
• Three or more years of professional work experience as a Cutter
• Extensive knowledge of theatrical costume practices.
• A problem solver, creative thinker, great team player and a passion
for theatre.
• A fast learner, and welcomes a good challenge.
• Basic computer skills

Additional Information

TIMING
2023-24 Season Contract Dates: July 31st , 2023 – Spring 2024
This is a recurring, seasonal position, and the successful candidate will not need to reapply for future seasons.
