Job Description / Duties:
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Theatre Technician will maintain and operate
auditorium equipment and oversee lighting, sound, and all technical aspects of productions taking place within our performance space as well as maintain the workshop, off-site production facility, and rest of the Imperial Theatre.
Summary of duties:
- Maintain a safe production environment
- Provide direction, instruction, and training to crews
- Provide advice with regards to proper equipment usage and application
- Maintain inventory of theatre supplies
- Meet regularly with Production Manager
- Maintain technical equipment and operate as required
- Remain current with relevant technology and best practices
Sound
- Prepare soundboards and equipment for shows as well as maintain the quality of sound throughout a performance
- Set up microphones on performers and in various places in the theatre
- Check sound levels and make sure the equipment is functioning correctly
- Run sound checks
- Maintain the work areas to ensure the safety and productivity of the team
- Attend meetings with the creative teams and tenants to ensure sound requirements are in place for rehearsals and performances
- Keep abreast of the advances in technologies and techniques in the industry
Lighting
- Develop lighting designs
- Rig, focus and operate necessary lighting equipment
- Program consoles
- Take cues from the stage manager
- Operate lighting systems during performances
- Maintain the lighting equipment in good safe working condition
- Take on frontline electrical maintenance duties when needed
- Operate within current health and safety regulations to ensure a safe environment.
- Maintain the work areas to ensure the safety and productivity of the team
- Attend meetings with the creative teams and tenants to ensure lighting requirements are in place for rehearsals and performances
- Keep abreast of the advances in technologies and techniques in the industry
Qualifications / Required Skills
- Minimum One-year community college diploma in Technical Theatre Production with experience in technical theatre or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Superior work organization and time management skills
- Proven ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with staff, volunteers, community and external organizations
- Ability to take initiative, work independently, and in a team setting
- Technical and design skills related to theatrical lighting, sound, and video
- Set design and construction skills
- Computer skills related to current theatrical technology
- Computer knowledge, specifically Google Workspace
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and operation problems
- Ability to work under pressure to meet frequent deadlines
- Hang, circuit and focus lighting equipment
- Repair equipment as required
- Strong balanced hearing ability
- A technical knowledge of electricity and electronics
- Knowledge of the capabilities of different types of sound equipment
- Understand health and safety requirements
- Ability to react quickly and creatively to any problems that arise
- Patience, concentration and focus
- Manual dexterity
- Creative flair and excellent attention to detail
- Patience, stamina, physical agility and ability to work comfortably at heights
- Good numeracy skills
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Additional Information
Familiarity with ETC Ion lighting console, Digital Audio Consoles, Qlab playback software, ProTools, and MIDI show control considered an asset
Fall Arrest and Aerial Lift Operation Certificate are required and will be provided
Knowledge of the Theatre Industry and Operations
Salary: $37,000 to $45,000
