Job Description / Duties
1.0 Summary:
1.1 The Intern position is a member of the bargaining. The position is designed to provide learning opportunities and will not complete tasks in an unsupervised environment. Internships are generally 4 to 8 months and provide general support for the appropriate program area at the Yukon Arts Centre Corporation (YACC).
2.0 Position History:
2.1 This position has been in existence at YACC for several years with no position description. All internships are subject to available funding. This position description was developed in May, 2019.
4.0 Responsibilities/Duties:
4.1 This position provides support as assigned by the Director of Production. All works is pre-determined and conducted under supervision.
4.2 Comply with YACC’s Policies including the Respectful Workplace and Health, Safety and Wellness Policies and the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations published by the Yukon Workers’ Compensation Health and Safety Board.
5.0 Reports to: Director of Production
6.0 Supervision of Staff: None
7.0 Supervision of Budget: None
8.0 Working Conditions: Work is completed in a professional theatre environment and multi-purpose venue (Old Fire Hall) and is directed by the Director of Production or his designate in a training program. The work is physical and involves the following hazards:
• Lifting and handling loads
• Slipping/tripping hazards
• Working at heights
• Electrical Safety
• Excessive noise
• Stress/Fatigue
• Working with Small Tools
• Repetitive work
• Chemical hazards (depending on show requirements)
Qualifications / Required Skills
9.0 Mental Demands/Independent Judgement/ Problem Solving: All intern work is pre-determined and supervised. This position follows pre-existing health and safety guidelines, policies, and procedures.
10. 0 Qualifications:
10.1 Education/Experience:
• Currently enrolled or recently graduated from an arts training program in College or University.
10.2 Knowledge:
• Knowledge of arts and cultural programming.
10.3 Skills:
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Basic computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and use of the internet
10.4 Abilities:
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Ability to do physical work
• Ability to maintain a helpful and friendly manner
• Ability to work irregular hours
Additional Information
Position: Technical Intern
Status: Temporary, Full Time, Flex Time Term September 12, 2022 – June 30, 2023 - PSAC Bargaining Unit Position
Rate of Pay: $19.55/hour during six-month probation period, increasing to $20.33/hour upon completion of a successful probationary period. – Rates still subject to new collective agreement.
Benefits: $.071 an hour in lieu of benefits
Hours of Work: As required for events averaged to 40 hours per week.
Employee will track hours on timesheet software provided and is responsible for balancing time and time off in lieu to minimize overtime. The Employee cannot commit to overtime without prior approval.
Salary: $19.55/hour during six-month probation period, increasing to $20.33/hour upon completion of a successful probationary period.
