Job Description / Duties
Perchance Theatre seeks a Technical Director to join us. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, talented, flexible, individual with a deep love of making theatre magic, especially in unique environments.
Reporting to, and working closely with, the Artistic Producer and Production Manager, the successful candidate will be overseeing all technical aspects of the season from conception to opening of the 2024 summer repertory season. Starting on a part time basis, and becoming full time close to the start of rehearsals, this position can begin remotely if needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
>Cost and conceptualize the execution of all set/prop design submissions throughout the approval process and create a detailed costing analysis of each prior to approval.
>Consult on tech week schedules with the PM, for the repertory season in accordance with CAEA Dance Opera Theatre (DOT) Agreement.
>Work both indoors and outdoors in Conception Harbour, NL
>Overseeing production budgets to make sure all design/tech departments work within budget
>Managing set construction and treatments (includes costing, drafting, construction as needed, and sourcing materials and space).
>Managing rentals, returns, storage of equipment for the rehearsal hall and the theatre.
>Coordinate, supervise, and participate in production install, changeovers and strike.
>Attend all production, company and staff meetings, dress rehearsals for each production, and participate in the planning, coordination and execution of all production week activities with the PM.
>Acting as site manager for the theatre during the pre-production/ rehearsal period, maintaining the venue and assisting all departments as needed.
>Ensure that health and safety policies and procedures are met. Review all relevant health and safety policies before any work is done, and bring any necessary changes or updates to the attention of the Artistic Producer, Production Manager and Office Administrator on a timely basis.
Qualifications / Required Skills
>Graduate from an accredited post secondary institution in the field of theatrical production, or relevant experience.
>A thorough and current understanding of set construction techniques, staging principles and production techniques for theatre. Including knowledge of Vectorworks, Qlab, and Microsoft Office Suite.
>Excellent problem solving skills
>Strong leadership skills.
>Excellent communication skills.
>Strong team player.
>Ability to lift 50 pounds
>Working at heights
>Comfort working on both A frame and Extension ladders
>Strength in solving interpersonal conflict.
>The ability to remain calm, positive and focused in a high pressure and deadline based environment.
>First aid training is considered an asset.
This role will require standard backstage production work in an outdoor setting, and some physical labour may be involved. This could include, but is not limited to, climbing ladders, lifting small set pieces, participating in set changeovers, etc.
Additional Information
DURATION: 8-10 weeks tbd - Anticipated Start Date: Week of April 15th . Position begins part time and becomes full time
Salary: $1200-1300.00 weekly

Our theatre hires following the DOT Tier One from CAEA. Our work is created with a focus on the outdoor environment and live creation and as such we have extremely basic lighting, and do mostly live sound/music scapes. Our technical needs focus more on set and props and always creating with an eye to responsible environmental practices. Where possible we reuse and recycle existing theatre elements to minimize our impact.
