Job Description / Duties

Pacific Opera Victoria seeks an individual to oversee all technical aspects of its production season and to manage all Opera Shop operations.

The Technical Director reports to the Director of Production & Artistic Administration, and shall be responsible for the smooth operation of shop and theatre activities. This shall include producing cost estimates, engineering construction methods for scenic designs, managing expenditures for all shop departments, creating shop and theatre crew schedules, coordinating lighting, sound, special effects and multi-media requirements, and establishing procedures for theatre installation, operation, strike and transfer of Pacific Opera Victoria productions. They will supervise IATSE stagehands and shop staff, will oversee maintenance of shop equipment and facilities, and maintain occupational health and safety policy. The Technical Director shall liaise with designers, directors, stage management and the Director of Production & Artistic Administration on relevant production matters and attentively coordinate with production departments. They will also manage the operations of external production contracts and Opera Shop activities.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualified candidates will have a minimum two years’ professional experience and demonstrate a working knowledge of scenic, properties and wardrobe construction, rigging, lighting, sound and multi-media. Candidates should possess strong computer skills, including a thorough knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and computer drafting (Vectorworks or AutoCAD). Familiarity with IATSE collective agreements is an asset. The ideal candidate will possess strong collaborative and organizational skills, a sense of humour and a desire to work with an innovative company in a dynamic team environment.

Salary: $60,000 to $70,000 per annum, contingent on experience, plus benefits and RRSP.
