Job Description / Duties
The Shaw Festival is seeking applications for seasonal Stitchers of senior level in Tailoring to work within our Wardrobe Department preparing costumes for our 2025 season. These positions will report to the Head of Wardrobe and Associate Head of Wardrobe, and are part of the Wardrobe department team. There are multiple positions available, with seasonal contracts between January and August. Additional work may be available in October/November.
Qualifications / Required Skills
• Professional-level sewing skills
• Knowledge of men’s and women’s period costume construction
• Experience with building tailored jackets, waistcoat’s and trousers from beginning to end.
• Must be able to follow the instructions and standards set out by the Cutter /Tailor
• Communicate and work cooperatively with the Wardrobe team and follow the deadlines set out by the Wardrobe Coordinator/ Head of Wardrobe
• Ability to work with industrial sewing machines and steam irons
• Must execute duties in a manner consistent with safe working practices and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
• Must execute duties in accordance with department policies and procedures
As part of the interview process candidates may be asked to come in for a sewing test to assess their skill level.
Additional Information
Please Note: All new hires must provide Proof of Full Vaccination including one booster prior to their start date.
Salary: Hourly Rate: $30/hr – $31/hr
