Job Description / Duties

Who are we looking for?

The Second Electrician is a permanent part-time role, part of our fit-up and running crews. This role is will work under the supervision of the Stanley Theatre Technical Director. Scheduling of this position will be as required, depending on the specific demands of each production. This is a unionized position under the Arts Club Theatre Company/I.A.T.S.E. 118 Collective agreement.

This position will act as an assistant position to the Head Electricians at the various venues. The Second Electrician may be asked to step in and lead the crew through the hang, focus, level sessions and show runs as well as acting in the same capacity for the Sound department on smaller shows. The second will also provide swing relief as a running crew position.

We are looking for a reliable team-mate, who looks to support a production through technical excellence. The successful applicant will be excellent at trouble shooting issues, and have a broad general knowledge of theatrical lighting.

What is the job?

• Programming and operation of computer lighting boards (ETC ION) and all components of the lighting system
• Operation of sound control for pre-recorded sound (Q-Lab)
• Assist with all aspects of pre-production as it relates to electrics/sound/video
• Read, understand and implement Lighting Designer plots and associated paperwork
• Hang, Focus and Maintain a wide range of theatrical fixtures
• Supervise lighting/sound/video installations when required
• Be part of running crew and assist on theatre rentals when required
• Assist with ongoing maintenance, organization and purchasing of consumables
• Assist other stage crew during show (e.g. during scene changes)
• Assist with occupational safety and health of workers; keep work area safe, tidy and hygienic

Qualifications / Required Skills

What are the required skills and qualifications?

• Proficient in programming and operation of computer lighting boards (ETC ION) and all components of the lighting system.
• Able to read and understand Lighting Designer plots and associated paperwork.
• Proficient with networking, troubleshooting, and maintaining IP-based transmission protocols for Sound, Lights and Video.
• Ability to work under tight time constraints.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
• Ability to problem solve and think on your feet.
• Ability to lift heavy objects safely.
• Ability to work at heights.
• Broad knowledge in theatrical lighting procedures, problem solving, time management tools and theatre products.
• Proficient working knowledge of counter weighted fly systems and the set-up, rigging and strike of lighting equipment.
• Operation and maintenance of motorized stage equipment control systems.
• Ability to supervise Lx hang, focus, and strike crews

What are the Mandatory requirements?

• Minimum of three (3) years experience as a stage electrician working for a professional theatre company
• Experience working in a Fly House and the ability to work at heights and climb ladders
• LPEC certificate
• Able to repeatedly lift, push or maneuver heavy loads, either alone or with assistance from others
• Valid Driver’s License

Where will preference be given?

• Preference will be given to candidates who are members of IATSE local 118.
• Experience in programming and running sound control for both live mix and pre-recorded sound as well as projection (Q-Lab) is considered an asset.
• Limited Entertainment (LE) or Full Entertainment (FE) certificate is an asset.
• OFA Level 1 certificate.
• Pyrotechnic and/or Firearms certificate.
• More than 3 years’ experience as a Head Electrician.
• Candidates with experience working with Windows and Apple computer operating systems and computer networking

Additional Information

What are the conditions and remuneration?

• Work is based on a permanent part- time schedule
o There are no guaranteed minimum weekly hours
o Information regarding scheduled hours will be given well in advance
o Candidate should expect an average of 20h/week
• During Installations and Tech weeks there may be work scheduled in excess of 40 hours per week
• Overtime hours worked can be banked and paid out at the employees discretion
• Work will take place at all three ACTC venues
• Hourly rate is set by IATSE Collective Agreement (Sept 21-22: $29.49/hr)
• Option to be included in IATSE RRSP Matching Program
• Comprehensive Benefits Package through IATSE Local 118
• Vacation days and PTO for illness and emergency as defined by the ACTC/IATSE CBA.

Salary: Hourly rate is set by IATSE Collective Agreement (Sept 21-22: $29.49/hr)
