Job Description / Duties
Resumes are being accepted for the position of House Technician with the River Run Centre. Reporting to the Supervisor, Technical Services, River Run Centre, the core responsibilities of the House Technician II (Stage Carpenter) are the load in, set up, operation, tear down and load out of all scenic elements used on the stage. This position will also support the other House Technicians and departments as required. Hours of Work
40 hours per week, Sunday through Saturday, scheduled per the Collective Agreement. Schedule will vary but will be mainly afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts. Flexibility is required.
Qualifications / Required Skills
Your Role
• Ensure a safe working environment for artists and crew. Ensure that all stage crew on the stage wear prescribed PPE and follow established safety policies and procedures.
• Maintain, move, and operate stage equipment, including raising and lowering of orchestra pit, removal, storage and replacement of orchestra pit seating, moving and setting up risers, and loading in, setting up and loading out equipment.
• Safely call or operate the fly pipes and work with all departments to ensure correct fly pipes are brought into the deck and taken out, that drapes, scenery, and equipment are safely attached, and that counter weighting is done in the correct sequence.
• Safely assess and produce rigging requirements for flats, flys, drops silks and any other flown equipment.
• Running a small shop that contains saws, drills, presses and more.
• Orchestrate with house crew on carpentry projects and maintenance
• Coordinate the set-up, tear-down and storage of the acoustic shell.
• Clean, repair and paint stage deck.
• Coordinate and communicate with local stage crew, River Run Centre staff, artists, artist management and touring crew from start of show call until completion of load out.
• Ensure staging equipment; including acoustic banners, risers, stairs, ladders, tools, draperies, and rigging supplies are maintained in safe working condition.
• Support other House Technicians as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Experience related to the duties listed above, normally acquired through the completion of a Grade 12 diploma plus a 3 year community college diploma in Technical Production, in theatre or a related field and 4-5 years experience in theatre systems, lighting, sound, carpentry and rigging. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Thorough understanding of the workings of a road house environment and a background in concert, theatre, dance and industrial productions.
• Problem-solving skills along with excellent customer service, interpersonal and team skills.
• Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and an understanding and commitment to safe working practices.
• Able to perform physical requirements of position: lift 25 kg. objects, climb ladders etc.
• Must understand the needs of the performing arts/entertainment sector, corporations, community groups, educational institutions, and other potential clients.
• Time management skills including the ability to multi-task, work with deadlines, and work under pressure.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Attention to detail and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).

Rate
$29.68 - $36.42 per hour
