Job Description / Duties

The Citadel Theatre, one of Canada’s largest and busiest professional, not-for-profit theatre companies and facilities, is currently seeking a Head of Electrics. Reporting to the Technical Director, the Head of Electrics is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the electrical department; the organization, installation, operation and maintenance of all stage electrics and theatrical lighting equipment, and special effect elements within the Citadel premises, and related to the Citadel’s presentation of productions in all spaces and on tours as well as other events.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Supervise and direct all activities related to set-up, operation and strikes of stage lighting, electrical distribution, special effects and customized components.
Lead seasonal and casual lighting crews.
Program and operate lighting consoles for.
Report and advise on remedies for any deficiencies in lighting equipment.
Maintain and organize all lighting department equipment, supplies, and inventories.
Create cost estimates for lighting designs submitted by Lighting Designers for all Citadel productions, co-productions, and presentations.
Advise on the lighting department needs for production scheduling in collaboration with the technical director.
Create, maintain, and update inventory documentation and equipment lists related to lighting equipment and supplies.
Attend production meetings and rehearsals as required.

Qualifications / Required Skills

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Post-secondary theatre training, working knowledge of stage lighting and its equipment or equivalent experience.
Experience: Five years’ experience within a professional theatre environment as a lighting technician.
Skills:
Strong team leadership and interpersonal skills
ETC Lighting Console programming
Reading and preparing technical drawings and documentation

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Fall Arrest certificate.
Proficiency with Vectorworks and Lightwright software.
Special Effects Pyrotechnics certification, while not required, is an asset.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to climb ladders and comfortable working at heights.
Available to work flexible hours, evenings and weekends.

Hourly rate: $31.22 per hour, 40 hours per week per the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Potential Start Date of May 6, 2024.

Salary: $31.22 per hour
