Job Description / Duties
Royal MTC is looking for an individual to fill the role of Head Scenic artist for the 2022-2023 Season. This is a temporary seasonal placement to cover a sabbatical leave.
This position plays a key role in helping bring to life Royal MTC productions. As the Head Scenic Artist, you are responsible to with all aspects of scenic painting for the Mainstage productions. In addition, this position will manage and supervise the Assistant Scenic Artist and casual paint crews
Qualifications / Required Skills
• Excellent, comprehensive artistic and scenic skills
• Good knowledge of scenic painting techniques, layout and paint application
• Colour mixing skills
• Theatrical sketching, rendering, and painting experience
• 3+ years professional work experience in a theatrical work environment, and preference will be given to those with supervisory experience
• Good organizational and communication skills
• Ability and enthusiasm for working in a collaborative, adaptive team environment
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Team player with a good general knowledge of all aspects of theatre and live performance
• Good physical condition (able to climb ladders)
• Comfortable with heights
• Able to assist in moving scenic elements as required for painting

Salary: Compensation • Based on a 40-hour work week with fluctuating hours during tech weeks. Weekend availability a must during the span of contract (October – April). • Weekly salary range $27-$29/hr depending on experience
