Job Description / Duties
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
▪ Develops and modifies long term strategic business and operating plans, ensuring that philosophy, vision, mission, and policies clearly reflect and connect to the WMCA’s overall
corporate goals and objectives.
▪ Oversees all aspects of the WMCA including planning, design and operations, and maintenance of the facility.
▪ Develops and administers budgeting and financial management controls, all operational and capital purchases, and capital projects.
▪ Prepares and delivers up-to-date statistical and financial records.
▪ Communicates objectives, plans and benchmarks/outcomes to board of governors, partners, key stakeholders, government agencies and the public.
▪ Researches and recommends new sources of revenue as well as reduced expenditures through monitoring of overall operational effectiveness and efficiency.
▪ Establishes links with community groups and monitors sustainability.
▪ Establishes and maintains a facility marketing program.
▪ Develops and maintains contacts within the entertainment industry including the prairie community, and among user groups.
▪ Determines staffing requirements, participates in hiring processes, training, coaching and leading activities, participates in daily operations, and monitors and manages performance issues.
WORK CONDITIONS
▪ The duties of a General Manager are carried out mainly in the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium in an office environment.
▪ An on-site presence is required daily.
▪ Public speaking to large and small groups is required.
▪ The position deals with constant distraction relating to general office noise, interruptions from subordinates and the public requiring information, direction or advice.
STAFF REPORTING TO THIS POSITION
Directly: Full-time employees.
Indirectly: Part-time front-of-house employees (i.e., Ushers, bartenders, cleaners) who report to Event Services Coordinator.
Indirectly: Stage Crew members who report to the Technical Director.
Qualifications / Required Skills
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Skills
▪ Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing with a diverse group of people, including elected officials, employees of different levels of government, theatre employees, media, and the public.
▪ Demonstrates initiative to work with others to foster a respectful workplace, creating an environment where individuals are empowered to work together and share equally in the exchange of ideas, concepts, and process outcomes.
▪ Teaches, trains, develops, or otherwise improves the skills of others through effective coaching and guidance.
▪ Possesses proficient computer skills including Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, Power Point, and Adobe Acrobat and Google Workspace.
▪ Experience with a current ticketing and CRM system.
▪ Experience with standard bookkeeping software.
▪ Is skilled at writing comprehensive and detailed reports.
Knowledge
▪ Knowledge of recreation and cultural fields, performing arts, project management, marketing, budgeting processes, public administration, Provincial legislation, license agreements, and contract negotiation and implementation.
▪ Considerable knowledge of modern principles, practices, and techniques in motivating employees, and building successful organizations and working teams.
Abilities
▪ Demonstrated ability to make decisions even with conflicting or incomplete information and making and implementing tough, unpopular decisions when warranted.
▪ Ability to manage conflicts or emergencies decisively and effectively so there is minimal cost to the organization and minimal disruption to individuals and operations concerned.
▪ Demonstrated flexibility to change communication style, format and content when presented with unanticipated information and demonstrated abilities to work effectively with media.
▪ Ability to plan, direct and coordinate the work of subordinates.

Education
▪ Minimum level of education to perform this job competently is an undergraduate degree or equivalent career experience related to the assigned duties.
Experience
▪ Experience in cultural event programming and project management.
▪ Experience and competence in marketing and branding.
▪ Experience working in several functional areas of an events venue.
▪ Demonstrated agility in prioritizing, multi-tasking and delegating to remain focused on mid and long-range goals as daily issues emerge.
▪ Success in advocating for change in support of organization’s needs (financial, regulatory, reputation, infrastructure, etc.)

The General Manager reports directly to the WMCA Board of Governors.
Interaction with external contacts:
▪ Regularly interacts with all levels of government funding bodies (especially Province of Manitoba and City of Brandon).
▪ Represents the WMCA to federal, provincial, regional and municipal governments and agencies, and the public.
PURPOSE OF POSITION
Reporting to the Board of Governors, the General Manager ensures the efficient and effective operation of the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium (WMCA). The successful candidate will coordinate all the arrangements for delivery of events or functions at the WMCA to ensure quality customer service. This position will also be involved in setting long and short-range plans, budgets, policies, relationships, and staffing.
