Job Description / Duties

• Researching historical backgrounds and details of costume designs as required.
• Sourcing, purchasing, acquiring and/or building costumes for assigned shows under the guidance of the Head of Wardrobe and with the designer’s approval.
• Producing paperwork for stage management and dressers.
• Assisting designers in fittings and relay information to Wardrobe.
• Communicating between designers, directors and Head of Wardrobe regarding all wardrobe elements of the production.
• Preparing rehearsal costumes as required.
• Ensuring the safe operation of all costumes during the run of a show.
• Supervising other wardrobe staff, including dressers and laundry personnel.
• Handling and repairing wardrobe during the run of show, which may include show laundry.
• Assisting and supervising quick change rehearsals, load-in, set-up, and strike of costumes.
• Providing solutions and guidance to the costume assistants and first hand as required.
• Communicating all decisions to the Head of Wardrobe and reporting issues that require solutions.
• Sharing the responsibility of responding to show notes.
• Overseeing and assisting in maintaining the cleanliness of the wardrobe room.
• Assisting in monitoring stock and informing the Head of Wardrobe of required materials.
• Assisting in organizing and maintaining wardrobe storage.
• From time to time, other related duties may be assigned as required.

Qualifications / Required Skills

• At least 5 years work experience in a wardrobe.
• At least 2 years work experience managing a wardrobe department.
• Proficient hand and machine sewing skills.
• Strong time management, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and initiate tasks.
• Proficiency in Excel, Word and Internet researching.
• Valid G Driver’s License and access to a vehicle would be an asset.
