Job Description / Duties
Reporting to the Executive Producer, Popular Music & Variety, the Associate Producer (Summer Programming) is responsible for the strategic planning, creation, and execution of the NAC Summer Programming in alignment with the NAC Strategic Plan, Vision, and Goals. While the Associate Producer often directs a project-based and/or seasonal team, they predominantly work independently, with a small team, and is self-directed.
Key Activities:
• Working with the Executive Producer, create and curate 8 weeks of Summer Programming that reflects the current strategic plan for audience engagement and development and includes all artistic disciplines of the NAC
• On-site producer for all Summer Programming shows and events
• Direct the engagement and contracting of artists to perform in the Summer Programming
• Work with the Curator and Archivist, NAC to execute a major summer public art installation
• Undertake managing onsite relationships which require working cross-departmentally including but not limited to artists, production, F&B, and operations
• Engage key local community groups, associations, and government to bring marquee activities and events to the Summer Programming,
• Work with the AP PMV for major public events like Canada Day including working internally with marketing, communications, digital, and production,
• Work with donors, stakeholders, and the general public regarding Summer Programming as the primary point of contact to the NAC and its departments including production and F&B when required,
• Manage, allocate, track, and report the budget for the Summer Programming department,
• Under the direction of the Executive Producer, work with marketing and communications on the overall brand marketing campaign for Summer Programming.
• Mentor summer students and other interns in the department giving them experience working in the event production and project management, as required,
• Write internal reports regarding Summer Programming programming as required by Corporate Communications, the Foundation, or other departments at the NAC,
• Assist with Community Programming with the Popular Music & Variety team as needed which may include strategic direction, producing shows and events with community groups in the Fourth Stage, and community relationship building.
• Ensure all financial records are delivered to and approved for accounting by the Company Manager, Popular Music & Variety (Summer).
• Frequent evening and weekend work,
• Occasionally, work on statutory holidays.
Qualifications / Required Skills
• Minimum five (5) years Project Management, Festival Management, or Event Management experience required
• Minimum three (3) years in a management position with direct reports, in particular working with students and/or mentors is an asset
• Experience creating budgets & forecasting
• Experience working with government and non-profit artistic organization
• Proficiency in an MS Office environment
• Superior attention to details
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
• Ability to exercise sound judgement and work independently
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with shifting priorities and multiple stakeholders
• Ability to work effectively with multiple departments and teams to deliver on organization-wide programs and priorities
• Experience working with unionized staff an asset
• Knowledge of local Ottawa non-profit and community organizations required
• Intermediate level in both official languages is required

Salary: $58,600 - $84,300 (position with benefits and pension plan)
