In this session, you’ll learn about co-productions from Russell Martin, Director of Production at Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre. Russell has worked on countless co-productions with companies across the country in his role at Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre.

You’ll learn about all aspects of co-productions, from crafting an initial budget and agreement in principle, to the details of contracting with ADC, CAEA, and IATSE members. RMTC has refined their process and templates over their long history of producing exceptional theatre, and partnering with others, and you’ll have an opportunity to see these in action, learn what lessons they evolved from, and get a glimpse at where they are heading next.

Co-Production have been regular part of Canadian theatre for many years but as we try to rebuild our industry and recover from the impacts of the pandemic, co-productions are becoming more necessary for companies looking to save on costs and share workloads with other organizations. We’ll also discuss the impacts these projects have on the staff and artists, and how we can minimize the negative impacts on earnings and job satisfaction, and maximize the benefits of reduced workloads as well the positive aspect of Co-productions, strengthening ties with other companies, sharing best practices, and introducing new artists to communities across the country .

There will be time at the end of the session for a Q&A, to answer all of your burning questions about how to play nice with each other.
