This 1-Day hands-on workshop is designed for new Vectorworks Spotlight users in the entertainment industry. If you’re self-taught and looking to fill knowledge gaps, this class is for you!
Cost:
- Regular: $406.00 CAD, plus applicable taxes
- CITT/ICTS Members: $324.80 CAD, plus applicable taxes

Workshop Overview
Gain a strong foundation in Vectorworks Spotlight while enhancing your efficiency in designing, documenting, and presenting event production layouts. You’ll learn essential tools, commands, and workflows for creating 2D, 3D, and hybrid designs.
Date and time: Tuesday, April 15, 2025, 9:00am-5:00pm | 8 Hours (Two 4-Hour Sessions)
Location: Room 524b | 5th floor of the Palais des congrès de Montréal

Morning Session:
• Explore the user interface and workspace.
• Set up a template for efficiency.
• Import and scale venue files (PDF/DWG).
• Configure staging, drape, rigging, lighting, and AV elements.
Afternoon Session:
• Design, patch, and focus a light plot.
• Model simple 3D scenery.
• Use Data Tags and Data Visualization.
• Create plans, sections, and elevations.
• Render and present designs.
• Review Vectorworks Cloud Services and certification options.
Prerequisites:
• General computer skills and basic drafting knowledge.
• Laptop with the latest Vectorworks Spotlight or Design Suite (trial licenses available - LEARN MORE HERE).
• A full-size keyboard or USB numeric keypad is recommended.
Instructors
Jim Woodward, Senior Solutions Specialist
Jim Woodward has over 45 years’ experience in worldwide event production for a wide variety of industries including live performance, film, television, corporate events, trade shows, museums, architectural projects, and retail. He has been incorporating CAD and 3D visualization into the entertainment workflow since 1986.
Dominique Rivard
Dominique Rivard provides French-speaking representation and training services for Vectorworks Canada. Coming from the audiovisual field as a technical director, he has dual technical training in audiovisual and architecture. His company 'avanTou' specializes in 3D surveying using high-density laser scanning and offers services for professionals working in construction and events. The company also aims to promote the influence of Vectorworks software.
