Whether you love them or loathe them, musicals are becoming common staples to indie producers and theatre institutions alike. In this session you will get to peek behind the conductor monitor and learn how to best set up complex and simple musical productions for success.

We will explore:

  • The impact of various roles within music departments (composers, music supervisors, music directors, copyists, musicians, programmers, and more!)
  • Scheduling processes, union rules, and milestones unique to musical theatre
  • How all of the design disciplines (and often their budgets) are impacted by musicals
  • Differences in planning for new musicals vs. existing musicals
  • And more!

After attending this presentation, attendees will be able to understand all the extra elements involved when putting up a musical production.

Robyn Hoja, local Toronto producer, who has spent the last decade working (almost exclusively) in Musical Theatre. Robyn spent her last 6 years with The Musical Stage Company, where she was the Producer & Operations Manager.
