Charting a Way Forward: Making the Case for the Value of Performing Arts Presentation in Canada: An interactive dialogue on touring and presenting live performances in Canada presented in collaboration with CAPACAO
Since May 2011, the Value of Presenting team has been undertaking the most comprehensive study ever on performing arts presentation in Canada. This session features
Inga Petri, project leader along with
Pierre Lacroix, who will share key findings and insights from over 600 presenters, representatives from related sectors and 1,000 Canadians.
These findings will set the context for this workshop.
Through small group work and open-floor discussion, issues centred on backstage and technical aspects of presenting will be explored in depth. Topics will be agreed on during the workshop to ensure greatest relevance to participants. They are expected to range from:
- The increasing use of digital technology;
- The impact of webcasting on touring;
- Unique health and safety concerns for outdoor productions;
- Producing quality shows in aging venues;
- Contemporary education and learning needs for technicians;
- Balancing artistic demands with available resources for touring productions.
This session seeks to develop recommendations on core strategies the performing arts presenting sector may adopt to advance its standing and solidify broad-based support. The outcomes of this workshop will form part of the final report on
