Layers of Light is a presentation of ETC’s approach to LED technology used specifically as tool for stage and studio lighting. It is intended to help professionals manage the current sea change from tungsten to electronic lighting.
LEDs are contrasted with traditional tungsten-halogen sources for skin tones, costumes, and scenery.
Multiple-color LED arrays are compared with more common RGB arrays.
The newest LED emitters are shown and their contribution to LED use in stage lighting is demonstrated.
Dimming and other control aspects of LEDs specifically relating to stage lighting are discussed.

PARADIGM SHIFT: TRANSFERRING SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND JOBS TO THE NEXT GENERATION
Moderator: Graham Frampton
We are on the cusp of a transfer of employment to a new generation of theatre technicians as many experienced professionals are retiring or nearing retirement. What will become of those life times of accumulated knowledge? How can we as individuals ensure a continuation of skills? This session will be an interactive exchange of ideas to provide young technicians and theatre students with ideas as to how they can achieve their career goals. It will provided an opportunity for seasoned technicians with the knowledge of how to impart their knowledge to a new generation.

DESIGNING COSTUMES FOR AN UNIVERSITY PRODUCTION WITH MINIMAL RESOURCES
- Presenter: Alessa Carpoca
Champagne taste on a beer budget and costume design. How do you approach designing a beautiful show when your resources in terms of number of workers and budget are smaller then what you used to have? I will present two different shows (Arabian Nights and Cyrano) designed at the University of Montana. Both shows had a short costume build, one of them a minimal budget, the other was a complex period show. The goal of this session is to explore strategies for costume design that will work when you do not have enough people, money and time to fully accomplish your vision.
Caucuses: Costumes, Design; Education Level: General (for all) Type: 90-mins Session

WHAT I DID ON MY SUMMER VACATION (Part 2) Hints on Traveling
- Presenter: John Madill
Some personal thoughts on planning and finding resources for visiting theatres and companies and archives in other countries. Much that a technician or designer may be in search for is not found in the standard travel guidebooks. This session, which welcomes any additional input, is based on prowling around dusty corners and under significant sites in England, Sweden, Holland, Austria, Hungary, northern Italy, and the Czech Republic, (as well as being a 'touristi' in ancient Greece) over the past 40 years.
